Design & Planning

The importance of a good design cannot be overlooked and no project should begin without proper preparation and planning.  Our designs are customized for each client according to the specific goals for that job and we don't dictate to you what you "want" or "need".   Our process is client friendly because we listen and take design cues from the time we spend with prospective clients. For the do-it-yourself installer, Fins & Flowers is ready to help with digital imaging software and/or CAD blueprints to get your project off to a great start.  We also can specify the components and equipment needed, suggest suppliers for stone and landscaping materials and walk you through the installation process step by step. 

Installation

Whether your goal is a water feature, container garden, koi pond or a water garden, Fins & Flowers is ready to handle all the installation details.  We custom build your project to fit your wishes and budget and select the components  best suited for  the job at hand instead of using pre-packaged "pond kits".  Our water garden installations utilize an environmentally friendly approach that balances safety, maintenance requirements and function with aesthetic goals.  All of our work reflects a level of craftsmanship not seen in the "build a pond in a day" style exhibited by many of our competitors. 

Cleaning & Maintenance

Every water garden needs regular maintenance and care so call on Fins & Flowers for jobs including spring cleaning, monthly maintenance service, replacement of filter pads and media, algae control, plant and fish care, predator control and fall leaf netting and winterization.  As always we provide free estimates and consultations before any work is done.

Troubleshooting & Repairs

Has your pump seen better days?   Have a leak you just cannot find?  Is your water chemistry out of whack?  Whatever the problem, Fins & Flowers is ready to help.  We work on all types of decorative ponds, fountains and water features, regardless of who installed them.

Plant & Fish Storage

Our heated greenhouse is the perfect spot to keep tropical water lilies and marginals during the winter.  Or if your fish need a temporary home, we can board them in one of our greenhouse ponds.

Online & Box Stores vs Local

We have all heard the reasons to shop local and support the businesses that operate in our communties. As a business owner myself I agree with such advice and I have something to add to the discussion. When it comes to water gardening products and installations, what value do you place on knowledge and service at the local level?

For instance, how many installations do you think the employees at the big box stores have under their belts? Or perhaps you believe the person answering emails for an online retailer only just got in from a jobsite and is taking a break to handle a few orders?

Local businesses are vital to the community because we understand our surroundings and we can best advise customers on how to handle issues, problems and situations specific to our local conditions. We have a vested interest in the community and realize that if we don't conduct business operations in a proper manner, we forfeit the right to serve our local marketplace.

The same can't be said of online sellers and big box stores because both the oversight and profits are located in places other than in the communities where they operate. So while those corporate bosses care about selling as much product as possible, they don't really worry if they have staff on site that can actually provide competent and professional advice to customers. If consumers are willing to trade lower prices for a lack of knowledge, I can't really say I blame the box stores and online retailers for their actions. After all, no one is forcing customers to shop there.
